  1. Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1469-1539)
    Guru Nanak Dev

    He was the first Guru of the Sikhs and the founder of Sikhism.

    He started ‘Guru Ka Langar’.

    He was a contemporary of Babar.

    The Kartarpur Corridor was launched on the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

2. Guru Angad Dev Ji (1504-1552)

    He invented a new script called Gurmukhi and popularized the ‘Guru ka Langar’ practice.

 

3. Guru Amar Das Ji (1479-1574)

Guru Amar Das Ji

    He started the Anand Karaj Marriage ceremony.

    He abolished practices like the Sati and Purdah system among the Sikhs.

    He was a contemporary of Akbar.

 

4. Guru Ram Das Ji (1534-1581)

    He established Amritsar in 1577 on the land given by Akbar.

    He started the construction of the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

 

5. Guru Arjun Dev Ji (1563-1606)

    He composed Adi Granth in the year 1604.

    He completed the construction of the Golden Temple.

    He was famous as Shaheeden-de-Sartaj.

    Jahangir killed him on the charge of helping Prince Khusro.

 

6. Guru Hargobind Ji (1594-1644)

Guru Hargobind Ji

    He converted the Sikh community into a military community. He is known as “Soldier Saint”.

    He established Akal Takht and strengthened the city of Amritsar.

    He waged war against Jahangir and Shahjahan.

 

7. Guru Har Rai Ji (1630-1661)

  He was peace-loving and devoted most of his life to maintaining peace with Aurangzeb and doing missionary work.

 

8. Guru Harkrishan Ji (1656-1664)

Guru Harkrishan Ji

    He was the youngest Guru among all the other Gurus and was given the title of Guru at the age of 5 years.

    A summons was issued against him by Aurangzeb for anti-Islamic activities.

 

9. Guru Teg Bahadur Ji (1621-1675)

    He established Anandpur Sahib.

 

10. Guru Gobind Singh Ji (1666-1708)

Guru Gobind Singh Ji

    He founded a warrior community called ‘Khalsa’ in the year 1699.

    He started a new ritual, “Pahul”.

    He was the last Sikh Guru in human form and was named ‘Guru Granth Sahib’ as the Guru of the Sikhs.
